Travel Diaries: Dubai, UAE

Hi guys!! I'm back with another travel post. This time I am writing about my travels to both the UAE and to Qatar. I will be writing two separate posts about both visits, but this one here will be about Dubai. If you're interested, there is also a corresponding Dubai Vlog that you can find on my YouTube channel.

Now, my friend Farah and I travelled together to Dubai from Doha via FlyDubai. We booked about 2 months prior to the flight and it worked out to about £60 each for a return flight. NOT BAD.
We flew into Al Maktoum International Airport On Thursday evening and left Sunday evening. So we had all of Friday, Saturday and Sunday. In those 3 days, we packed so many activities in.

Overall the trip was amazing, the Canadian in me got super excited that they have a Tim Hortons (All my fellow Canadians you know whats up). I also have to say it's an awesome holiday destination, if you're looking for shopping, food and attractions, they do all three extremely well.
The thing about Dubai is that it is huge and everything is really far apart. We basically took taxis everywhere which does start to add up. My friend and I were saying that if we were to go back or even have stayed any longer, renting a car would have been a great idea. Just a thought if you're going for a visit.

Miracle Gardens:

The first thing we did in Dubai was visit Miracle Gardens. This place is AMAZING. It's so beautiful, quirky and affordable. The entrance fee was 40 Dirhams which works out to just under £10. Again, NOT BAD. This place is like an explosion of flowers. Everything is covered in flowers, and considering how warm the weather is, calling this place Miracle Gardens is very appropriate as I'm pretty impressed that they have been able to keep that many flowers looking so fresh.

I would definitely recommend dropping by this stunning garden if you visit Dubai as it's a pretty good way to spend the morning or afternoon. You can grab a drink/ice cream from one of the cafes and walk around enjoying the sun, fresh air and creativity of the endless amount of random objects covered in flowers.

Burj Khalifa:

One of the main attractions of Dubai is the fact they are are home to the tallest structure in the world (for now) with it standing an impressive 2716.5ft in the air. We booked this in advance online as it is not as expensive that way. There are two types of tickets, there is "at the top" and "at the top sky". The second one takes you up a floor higher and costs more. We ended up booking the first ticket type "at the top" which was AED125 for the non-prime hours. This works out to about just under £30 per person.

We booked in at 9am because it was one of the only slots available as we booked pretty last minute. However, it ended up being a good thing because the 9am time slot wasn't too busy and and as we were leaving around 11:30, the place started getting hectic. So if you're not a fan of crowds, book in the early times. They take you up in a lift which is all black on the inside and it takes you up to the 124th floor in 57 seconds, pretty exciting.

The view from the Burj Khalifa is insane, you can see everything. The morning we went, there was a slight fog in the air but it did clear up around 9:30 and since you can stay as long as you like once you arrive, we just waited it out. We hung out for around an hour basically taking pictures like crazy, which all the tourists were doing. It was pretty hilarious watching how seriously people were taking their photography.

Dubai Fountain:

The Dubai Fountains are one of the most entertaining attractions outside of the Dubai Mall, it's definitely a must see if you are going to Dubai. The Fountains go off every half an hour in the afternoon and each time the fountains move up and down to the beat of a different song. We saw it twice while there, once while it was still light outside and once after sunset. You'll have to watch my blog for a clip of the evening show we saw. It's amazing.

Dubai Marina

Dubai Marina is the perfect place for an evening chill as there are tons of restaurants and a stunning view, it was so beautiful at night. We rented out some carts and drove them all the way around the Marina which was really fun.

Nearby there's a mall as well to get your fill of Sephora and on the other side is Jumeira Beach which we also went to the night before. Both are great places to spend your evening and enjoy some fresh air and drinks by the water.

Salt - Kite Beach

On the final day we went to Kite beach to eat sliders at Salt. Let me tell you, this place is no joke. The food is just yummy. If you visit Dubai, you have to go to Salt. It's an obligation. GO!

Lasting impressions

Overall, I enjoyed my time in Dubai. It's not really where you go if you want a cultural/historical experience but it's definitely where you go for an epic city experience. The weather was gorgeous and the views were spectacular with all the high rises. I will always remember my trip to Dubai and hope I'll get to go again one day. Comment below if you have any questions and check out my Vlog down below for a more visual idea of my trip! Until next time, mwah! xo
